New Plone Site
My personal website is now running a standard, but enterprise grade CMS and publication platform, Plone!
My personal website has went through many iterations over the years, and at one point, I even lost this domain entirely for several years of my life. I tended to focus on building very customized web applications, usually using the technology I was learning at that period in my life. Here is a breakdown of the various iterations you may or may not have seen:
| When/Era | Backend | Frontend | Notes |
| Mid-2000s, roughly 2006 | PHP | Pure HTML at first. | Wrote this during my PHP Phase in my life. |
| 2007ish | PHP | JavaScript with AJAX | When I began learning about basic AJAX, I made the site a bit more dynamic. |
| 2007ish | PHP | JavaScript with XML | When I was learning about XML, I decided to make all AJAX requests return proper XML to be parsed. |
| 2010ish | mod_python | Pure HTML again | When I was starting to learn Python. |
| 2011ish | Django | Converted from PHP | I decided to rebuild all eras of my profile in Django, so it had the original, along with the AJAX versions. |
| 2013 | Python | shellinabox | A really fun experimental website I showed off at Pycon 2013 to various participants, which ran a Python terminal program displayed in the browser via shellinabox, had full mouse support too! |
| 2025 | Pascal | HTML | I wrote a new experimental framework to execute native 6502 programs as web applications, my titular VFS project. |
| 2026 | Pascal | pas2js and REST | The most recent iteration before this Plone deployment. |
| 2026 | Plone | Plone | The current iteration that will probably stay around for awhile, as it will make content creation super easy. |
It's been awhile, so I actually cannot recall each iteration exactly, or if there was a mod_python one or not. I may need to look through my archives to see, as I actually do still have the source code for every single iteration, including the old PHP ones lying around on my backup storage someplace.
Why Plone Now?
Plone will make it easier to create the personal website experience that I want to deliver to people today. It will make it very effortless to create new content, and even attach new images and media to various content. I do have another blog, which may or may not be updated anymore, depending on how fleshed out this new website becomes over the next month or so.
